Nicole Ari Parker is an American stage and television actor known for her performance as the fierce attorney Teri Joseph on the Showtime show Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe is her new name after she married. While growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always interested in acting. When she participated in an Maryland high school contest during her first years of education she received the award for the most outstanding actress. Contractor is a Mumbai-born Indian living in Nigeria at the age of was just seven years old. She was well-versed in world cultures and traveling even at a very young age. She went to boarding school at the age of 7 to 9 in London. Later her family relocated to Toronto (Canada) where they were raised for her entire life. Contractor was a classical ballet student in Toronto. She also excelled academically. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts which is a highly specialized public arts high school, where she did not only dance but studied theater as well. Contractor started acting at the age of 16, following nearly 10 years in dance. After she completed high school with a full tuition scholarship to University of Toronto where she was a theatre student with a dual diploma in sociology and psychology. Contractor was a student who'd completed her university degree was invited to audition at an open call for Pericles which was held at the highly acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canadain Canada] and was selected for the part. The production she appeared in received acclaim from Canadian theater critics. Contractor was offered the opportunity to take part in the conservatory course, in which the top eight men and four females are selected for a 20-week crash course on classical theater which she eagerly took. Contractor's place in the following production was secured, and she was chosen as Hermia.
